Dörken MKS-Systeme at the Internationalen Suppliers Fair (IZB)

Description:

At this year's International Suppliers Fair (IZB) in Wolfsburg, Dörken MKS-Systeme presented high- performance corrosion protection for chassis and major components with difficult geometry.

The IZB opened its doors for the 10th time from 16 to 18 October, so that 830 exhibitors from 34 nations were able to present their products and innovations to the trade fair visitors. The IZB was first hosted in 2001 as a Volkwagen in- house trade fair with 128 exhibitors and has since established itself as a showcase event for the international automotive supplier industry and an international marketplace for automotive expertise. Of course, the highly effective coating options for chassis parts of all kinds of the Dörken MKS systems could not be missing. Due to the high demand, the focus of the fair presentation at the IZB were chassis parts and large components with difficult geometry.

Chassis components are exposed to extreme static and dynamic stress, as well as constant mechanical onslaught in the form of stone impacts. To ensure the required, very high level of rust protection and long lifetime of the vehicle, especially resistant coating systems are called for. Special requirements such as the secure coating of the interior of pipe constructions can also only be satisfied via individual corrosion protection solutions. In addition, factors such as material thickness reduction for weight savings also play a role in the choice of coating system. One sensible solution for components in the area of the chassis is therefore zinc flake coating systems. These can be applied in very thin layers and are consequently particularly well-suited for components with complicated or intricate geometry. A further advantage: No hydrogen is generated in the coating process and there is therefore no risk of hydrogen-induced stress corrosion cracking. This means the zinc flake coatings are also suitable for high-tensile steel. The low curing temperature also avoids damaging the steel through excessive heat. In combination with a matching topcoat, a high degree of cathodic corrosion protection is provided – including after stone impact. In addition, zinc flake systems also meet the specifications of the manufacturers’ own driving tests, thus meeting the increasingly high-quality requirements of the OEMs.

Learning with experts

At the IZB 2018 Dörken MKS also presented “THE CORROSION COLLEGE”. Under the motto “Learning with Experts”, in the scope of the college target group-specific knowledge communication and project-oriented solutions on the subjects of corrosion and corrosion protection are offered. Subjects range from factors influencing the corrosion of components to different coating procedures and the inspection and testing of coated components and on to detailed coating processes. In addition to the standard seminar programme, “THE CORROSION COLLEGE” also offers special events that are tailored individually to the respective requirements of a potential customer, or that incorporate current problems and developments on the market. For example, there are seminars specifically for the trailer industry on the subjects “High-performance corrosion protection for chassis parts” and “Chassis parts application process”.
