High-performance protection for fasteners of all kinds

Date:

19-03-19

Location:

Stuttgart

Topic:

High-performance protection for fasteners of all kinds

Description:

At the Fastener Fair Stuttgart 2019, Dörken MKS presented its coating solutions for fasteners with special requirements. // The fair stand also saw the presentation of “THE CORROSION COLLEGE” – here the corrosion experts impart their know-how on the full spectrum of subjects related to corrosion and corrosion protection and thereby create a forum for discussions or queries.

Whether in the automobile or truck, in wind turbines, in building constructions or in construction machines: Fasteners are used in many ways. Depending on the field of application, they are exposed to high levels of stress such as environmental influences or stone chip, salt, rain or heat. Therefore, the corrosion protection of fasteners such as construction screws, thread-rolling screws or wheel bolts play an important role. In addition to a high corrosion protection, the surface coating must also guarantee functional properties like good assembly properties or a high chemical resistance.

Thread-rolling screws with Dörken MKS lubricant show no red rust after > 2000 hours (according to ISO 9227).

A practical solution

The high-performance zinc flake systems from Dörken MKS are particularly well suited for this. These can be applied in very thin layers– a system comprising a basecoat and a topcoat is just 8–20μm thick – using various application techniques. The basecoat contains zinc and therefore ensures high cathodic protection against corrosion. In addition, no hydrogen is generated in the coating process and there is therefore no risk of hydrogen-induced stress corrosion cracking. This means the zinc flake coatings are also suitable for high-tensile steel. The low cross-linking temperature also avoids damaging the steel through excessive heat. The zinc flake systems from Dörken MKS therefore not only protect against corrosion but also satisfy the conditions and increasing quality requirements of the manufacturers. The Dörken MKS portfolio also offers other coating solutions such as cobalt- and nickel-free electroplated coatings or KTL technology.

A construction screw with Dörken MKS lubricant heats up to only 80°C due to the low clamping pressure and low thread forming torque.

Learning with experts

At the Fastener Fair Stuttgart Dörken MKS also introduced “THE CORROSION COLLEGE”. Under the motto “Learning with Experts”, the corrosion experts of Dörken MKS impart their know-how on the full spectrum of subjects related to corrosion and corrosion protection and create a forum for discussions and a mutual exchange. The seminars and workshops range from basic knowledge to expert instructions. Whether the focus is on different methods of application or coating options – the topics are examined together and technical questions, changes or news are discussed.

“THE CORROSION COLLEGE” offers target group-specific knowledge communication and project-oriented solutions on the subject of corrosion and corrosion protection.
