Herdecke. More Ideas per m²

EXPERTS RIGHT FROM THE START – Over 125 years ago, Dr. Carl Dörken and Ewald Dörken, pioneers in paints and anti-corrosion coatings, founded their own company. Out of this came Dörken’s micro-layer corrosion protection systems in 1980.

Today, Dörken MKS is known worldwide – and, most notably, it is successful. And that also has something to do with our roots: because in Herdecke, people have always been straightforward, uncomplicated and have had a mind of their own. The best prerequisites, then, for adopting different approaches, developing new things and finding solutions that really bring their customers forward. And that's why Dörken MKS has become a true global player today.

Dr. Carl Dörken and Ewald Dörken founded the Ewald Dörken OHG to produce paints and corrosion protection coatings.

Dr. Carl Dörken develops a process for concentrating wood oil. The result is a varnish containing wood oil which, under the brand name of “Eburit”, becomes the leading decorator's material for the next seven decades.

As the production of consumer and industrial goods increases, so does the demand for paints to protect surfaces, for example, against corrosion.

Still operating under the name Delta-MKS, the production and sale of a micro-layer corrosion protection system begins which quickly occupies a significant market position.

Initially used for springs, host clamps and stamped parts, the high-performance, heavy-metal-free surface protection debuted at VW in 1983. The base- and topcoats are now certified worldwide, proven and indispensable in the automotive industry.

With the introduction of the DELTA-PROTEKT® series, Dörken MKS-Systeme continues to build on its success. Chromium(VI)-free solutions are increasingly in demand and so the chromium(VI)-free coatings from Dörken MKS-Systeme clearly gain acceptance, especially in the screw sector, and are highly demanded in various industries.

The formation of a holding structure creates Dörken MKS-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG as one of four operative business units of Dörken AG.

EU Directive 2000/53/EC (“End-of-Life Vehicle Directive”) officially enters into force and prohibits chromium(VI)-containing coatings in passenger cars. The success and market position of Dörken MKS-Systeme have made a decisive contribution to the development of the company. New sites were opened in China, Korea and the USA, making it a “global player” – but still developing and producing at the headquarter's in Herdecke.

With the takeover of LP-Oberflächentechnik GmbH, Schalksmühle, Dörken MKS-Systeme expands its portfolio, and in addition to zinc flake systems now also offers electroplating competences.

The new electroplating system DELTA-PROZINC® not only consists of pure galvanic product combinations but also offers an integrated approach.

The innovative DELTA-eLACK® system – a combi- nation of a cathodically protective substrate and the cathodic dip topcoat DELTA-eLACK® 800 – and coil coating expand the portfolio of Dörken MKS-Systeme.

In total, 30 years of experience and high standard technology have turned Dörken MKS-Systeme into corrosion experts. They offer solutions that are tailored to the individual needs of customers. In addition, THE CORROSION COLLEGE is launched – a platform for knowledge transfer and mutual exchange.

Innovation: the zinc flake now also dries at room temperature and can therefore be used for temperature-sensitive parts.
