Scaling protection

Reducing loss of material through scaling when reheating with coating

To reduce the formation of scaling when reheating steel a coating has been developed that acts as an oxygen barrier. A chemical bottom-up synthesis succeeded in setting defined characteristics of the coating, such as low coat thickness and good adhesion and application properties. The reduction of up to 80 % in scaling serves to increase material efficiency.
The scaling that does form is also more even and easier to remove, with the result that fewer scaling-related surface defects occur and reduced tool wear is achieved.
