Metal components are used in a wide range of applications for stabilising, securing or reinforcing. Corrosion protection plays an important role wherever these metal constructions come into contact with moisture or are exposed to the weather.

Exemplary components

Tension rod systems are used in applications such as framework elements and wind bracing of roofs and walls, for adjusting the tensioning of timber and steel beams, glass façades or pedestrian walkways. As safety-relevant components, they require effective corrosion protection.

Steel node systems are used for example on delicate roof and facade constructions as well as glass and membrane constructions. Amongst other things, they serve to ensure secure load transfer.

Wood screws are characterised by the fact that they cut their own thread when fastened to the timber. As they are often screwed to components made from other materials, there is a risk of contact corrosion. Used for roof structures, carports or playground equipment, they need to be well protected against corrosion, not least for safety reasons.

Solutions

When it comes to long-term corrosion protection of components and fastening elements in metal structures, the zinc flake systems from Dörken MKS offer a high-performance alternative. The coating consists of a zinc flake base coat and an organic or inorganic topcoat. It is applied in very thin coats at low cross-linking temperatures (up to max. 240 °C). At the same time, no hydrogen is involved in the application process, so there is no risk of application-related hydrogen-induced stress corrosion cracking.
