Rail vehicles

From fasteners to retaining rings: countless components are fitted in rail vehicles. Effective surface coatings are required to protect these against corrosion in the long term and hinder optical limitations in the form of red rust. In addition, exterior areas in particular require the use of a coating system that offers a high level of protection against aggressive alkaline or acid cleaning agents such as those often use in the removal of graffiti.

The fastening elements employed not only need to be protected against corrosion and offer resistance to alkaline and acidic cleaning agents, they also need to satisfy functional characteristics such as good fastening properties.

Safety washers used in rail vehicles come in all sorts of dimensions and designs, they secure screwed connections against breaking away. It is therefore all the more important that they have a high level of corrosion protection performance.

  • Corrosion protection (1,440 h as per DIN EN ISO 9227)
  • Resistance to cleaning agents (alkaline and acidic cleaning agents)
  • Trueness (coefficient of friction window)
  • Chromium (VI)-free

Solutions

To counteract the formation of corrosion, steel components in the interior and exterior areas of rail vehicles are coated. Zinc flake systems represent an economical alternative to these. This two-component system ensures a high protective effect with low coat thickness and offers individually-adjustable coefficients of friction for fastening elements. The high level of chemical resistance prevents the premature failure of components due to the effects of aggressive cleaning agents. In this way the surface coating helps to extend the vehicle lifetime and ensure function.
