Dörken MKS-Systeme presented its new "green electroplating" area of expertise at the Hannover Messe. / With Delta-Prozinc® the company revealed its expertise as a complete provider in the field of high-performance corrosion protection for the first time. / / The booth at the "SurfaceTechnology" placed a focus upon the field of automobile construction. / At the "Wind" booth Dörken introduced a new system for fastening elements in wind turbine assembly.

For the first time Dörken MKS-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG, Herdecke, present itself on the The Hannover Messe 2011 as a complete provider in the field of high-performance corrosion protection. At the "SurfaceTechnology" in Hall 6 the company presented the new field of electro-plating, alongside the established zinc flake system of the Delta-Protekt® series, with a focus on "Connecting elements in automobile construction". With the integration of LP-Oberflächentechnik GmbH of Schalksmühle at the end of September 2010 the Dörken MKS-Systeme portfolio was expanded to include this area of expertise, augmenting the proven electroplating top coats of the Deltacoll® and Delta-Protekt® series to form a complete system under the Delta-Prozinc® brand name. In the field of micro-layer corrosion protection this offers solutions for the complete process, from pre-treatment to electroplating, passivation with micro-diffusion impregnation (MDI) to sealing. The new system is primarily employed on cast and fluid parts, wire products and components or consumer durables in which a decorative, high-gloss appearance is required in addition to high-performance, functional corrosion protection.

In keeping with tradition, Dörken MKS-Systeme is a pioneer in reducing heavy metals in surface coating technology. From the very beginning, the company has employed chrome(VI)-free zinc flake systems. The company is now applying this approach to the electroplating systems in order to offer "green products" that go beyond the requirements of REACH and SVHC. As with all DELTA-MKS® systems, the future Delta-Prozinc® will be exclusively applied by a limited number of licensees. The strictly-controlled procedures regarding machine technology and application technology, coating and utilisation tests on the basis of the company's certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000, DIN EN ISO 14001 and EMAS II serve to secure the consistently high standard of quality. The high acceptance of MKS-Systeme in the automobile and subcontracting industry with specifications of all well-known OEMs and tiers, the sustainability of the systems and the global availability of the technology and the technical support through a dense network of local subsidiaries and TechCenters means that the prospects of success are also good for the new electroplating system.

New system for wind turbine assembly

On stand no. F 11 in Hall 27 Dörken MKS-Systeme presented high-performance systems for the growing wind energy market at the "Wind", the international Leading Trade Fair for Wind Generation Technology, Components and Services. Proven and specified system solutions such as the coating with the Delta®-Tone base coat and the Delta®-Seal top coat have been utilised in wind energy construction for over 15 years, for rotor blade connections in particular, and are approved by the leading worldwide manufacturers. In addition to high corrosion protection requirements, wind turbine assembly requires optimal connectability of the fastening elements on the construction site as an alternative to hot dip galvanising, a new system comprising the base coat Delta-Protekt® KL 105 and top coat Delta-Protekt® VH 351 GZ was presented in Hanover. At a coat thickness of between 6 and 8 µm the zinc flake coating already achieves corrosion durability of ≥ 720 hours without ferrous rust in salt spray testing (DIN EN ISO 9227-NSS). In combination with the top coat with integrated lubricant the friction factor lies in the required range. The particularly high mechanical durability of the system means that multiple bolt connections are possible with constant friction factors. The friction locking ability of the screwed connection is retained, even under thermal loads.
