Dörken MKS brings “fresh wind” to Husum

Experience effective corrosion protection for wind energy first hand: this was the motto for the appearance of Dörken MKS at this year’s Husum Wind in Husum, from 10 to 13 September 2019.

Central meeting point for the wind energy sector.

In spite of the current fall in construction figures for onshore and offshore wind energy units, numerous trade visitors to the leading German wind fair in Husum took the opportunity to learn about technical innovations, new products and current political issues such as the phasing-out of EU subsidies from the approximately 600 exhibitors from 25 countries.

Corrosion protection for long-lasting plant function

In this framework the CORROSION EXPERTS of Dörken MKS presented the latest developments concerning high-performance corrosion protection for components in and on wind energy units. As these are continuously exposed to both numerous environmental influences such as sun, rain and salty air and extreme static and dynamic stresses, surface protection tailored precisely to specific components plays a key role in retaining enduring functionality.

Presentation of zinc flake coatings that harden at room temperature

In addition to the tried and tested “classic” zinc flake systems the corrosion protection specialist also introduced a new zinc flake coating that hardens at room temperature. The DELTA-PROTEKT® KL 170 RT base coat is especially suitable for large, bulky or temperature-sensitive parts such as brake discs or roller bearings and delivers high-performance corrosion protection of 1,440 hours for salt spray testing in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9227 and condensed water testing as per DIN EN ISO 6270-1. In combination with a subsequently applied topcoat - such as DELTA-PROTEKT®VH 360 or VH 361 GZ – an optimal protective effect is provided for even highly complex parts.

Great future potential for corrosion protection

After the fair, the representatives of Dörken MKS declared themselves fully satisfied. Tim Eckleder, Sales Management Marketing & Business Organization, noted: “Although there is currently a degree of uncertainty in the wind sector, our expectations were exceeded. The subject of corrosion protection plays a key role, because it makes it possible to prevent the need for premature repairs or loss of components, thereby saving costs. We also see major potential here for the future, against the background of rising demand for renewable energy.”
